Choosing a company name is a big deal. It plays a huge role in a company’s growth and perception. One of the perks to working in the waste industry is that it allows for a little more fun and creativity when picking out a company name. Not to mention the endless list of puns! Over the years we have heard a lot of interesting names come through our office, so we wanted to share some of our favorites and some ideas if you are trying to come up with a name of your own.

Even with all the puns out there we know that figuring out the right name for your new company can be hard. The impact a name can have on the success of your company only adds to the difficulty. In order to help you come up with the right name for your business, ServiceCore has put together a list of tips to help you get started.

  1. It might help to create a few different groups of names that you can add to. Do you want a name with a pun? Do you have other businesses that you’d like to tie this one to? What are some no-frills names that might get the job done? This exercise will help point you in the right direction for your new dumpster business.
  2. Start by brainstorming a list of potential names, not just the ones you love but as many as you can think of. Once you have your list together then you can start to narrow them down to a list of just the names that truly resonate with you. Remember the name you choose for your business is going to be seen by everyone, so don’t hesitate to reach out to the people around you and get their opinion on the names on your list!
  3. Make sure the name you pick has meaning and relates to your business. Best practice for dumpster business names is to have a name that alludes to what service you provide.
  4. A catchy name is always helpful because it is memorable and helps your business stand out! Try not to pick something that is overused or boring.

How do you find out if companies near you have a name you want? You can simply go online and search for companies in your area or state to check before you commit to a name. Don’t exclusively search your area, however, as most often, when potential customers seek you out specifically, they’ll search your company name without any location parameters.
  6. Don’t pick a name that is hard to pronounce or spell. People will be searching for your company online and sharing your company’s information to friends and family members. Say the name out loud, write it down and re-read it, and check out what it looks like in domain form (i.e. servicecore.com). You might be surprised how some names don’t translate well to different situations. Overall, don’t make it hard for people to find you, keep it very simple!
  7. If you are planning on having a website (which you should be), you’ll want to see if the domain is available for the name you like. Try and lock in your new business name with a “.com”. This will help people find you and be easy to use for marketing your new company!
